The master's thesis of Mohammad Heydarian Manesh on "Virtual Clinics" was successfully implemented at Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Launched in June 2018, these clinics provide remote healthcare services, especially to patients in remote areas, reducing costs and environmental impact while improving access to health services. Despite some operational challenges, the project shows great promise for the future of digital health in Iran and globally.
TUMS GC:Pioneering Liver Transplantation at Hakim Hospital, Tehran University of Medical Sciences
In this episode of TUMS GC, Dr. Parastou Ariana, Deputy of Treatment, and Dr. Alimohamad Moradi, a Liver and Pancreas Surgery Fellowship at Hakim Hospital, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, provided insights into the first liver transplant performed at Hakim Hospital. Dr. Ariana described the liver transplant program as one of Hakim Hospital’s missions and added that over a year of serious planning and preparation had been undertaken. She stated that with the use of advanced equipment and the collaboration of top surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses, the procedure was successfully implemented. Dr. Moradi further explained that their patient was a 13-year-old boy with a rare enzymatic disorder. Due to an inability to metabolize cholesterol, he had developed fat deposits in his coronary arteries, making liver transplantation the only viable treatment for him.
TUMS GC: Games Exhibition at School of Nursing and Midwifery, Tehran University of Medical Sciences
In this episode of TUMS GC, Dr. Khadijeh Zareii, a faculty member of the Pediatric and Pediatric Intensive Care Department at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, explains that games play a crucial role in children's growth and that their development is shaped through play. To support this, a project called the "Play Trolley" has been designed. This trolley functions as a mobile playroom in hospital wards. The trolley is three stories high, with age-appropriate play items for each ward. Additionally, music and child-friendly films are provided to create a joyful atmosphere for children. Khadijeh Zareii mentioned that to cover the costs, a campaign has been launched, aiming to expand this initiative to more hospitals with the help of the public.

Dr. Saeedeh Mokhtari Khoee, Head of the Pediatric Dentistry Department, emphasized the importance of service quality and explained that the pediatric division operates at the highest standards, offering both general and specialized services, including advanced operating room procedures. Opening of the Comprehensive Medical Laboratory of Dar Al-Fonun -Tehran University of Medical Sciences

TUMS GC: Introducing the Geriatrics Department of Ziaian Hospital
The specialized field of geriatrics was first introduced in Iran in 2008 at Tehran University of Medical Sciences with the aim of improving the quality of life for the elderly and increasing life expectancy. Dr. Fatemehsadat Mirzadeh, noting that the elderly should not be seen as one-dimensional, stated that the geriatrics department at Ziaian Hospital consists of both outpatient and inpatient sections. The outpatient section is divided into physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and memory assessment units. The inpatient section, with eleven beds, investigates various causes of diseases. Dr. Ahmad Reza Khatoonabadi, a speech therapist at Ziaian Hospital, said: “One of the approaches that is considered in speech therapy is a social approach, with the aim of enabling communication with others and improving the quality of life of the elderly.
Painless childbirth with epidural at Arash Hospital
Painless childbirth has been offered at Aresh Women's Hospital, affiliated with Tehran University of Medical Sciences, since 2014. In this program, sponsored by TUMD GC, Dr. Masoumeh Nataj Majd, a subspecialist in anesthesiology, explains the epidural procedure for pain-free childbirth. She introduces the epidural method as a way to make natural childbirth more comfortable. In this method, the pregnant woman receives anesthesia through a very thin needle, reducing pain during natural childbirth and leading to a more pleasant birth experience. She also answers frequently asked questions about the epidural procedure.

Iranian Emergency Services Utilize Motorcycle Ambulances for Rapid Organ Transport
In a medical breakthrough, Iranian emergency services have successfully transported two donated kidneys from Imam Khomeini Hospital Complex to two other hospitals using a fleet of new motorcycle ambulances. The kidneys, donated by a 37-year-old man from Ardabil, were transported in under 20 minutes to Labafinejad Hospital and in just 5 minutes to Rasool Akram Hospital. The rapid and efficient transfer was made possible through a coordinated effort between the Emergency Medical Services Organization, the Ministry of Health's Transplant Department, and the new motorcycle ambulance fleet. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the field of organ transplantation in Iran. The use of motorcycle ambulances allows for faster and more efficient transportation of organs, increasing the chances of successful transplants.
