Seminar Highlights Latest Diabetes Advances
A two-day seminar on the latest advancements in diabetes care was held, focusing on topics ranging from personalized medicine, genetics, and artificial intelligence to the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
As reported by Sina Media, the event organized on November 9-11, 2024 by Endocrinology and Metabolism Research Institute and featured the launch of an updated "Diabetes Management Guideline," aiming to set care standards, facilitate clinical decision-making, and improve patient quality of life.
Dr. Ensieh Nasli, head of the Diabetes Research Center, emphasized the seminar's alignment with the World Diabetes Day theme of "Living with diabetes." She highlighted the importance of addressing both physical and mental health aspects of the disease, noting the significant psychological burden experienced by diabetic patients.
Dr. Shahin Akhoundzadeh Basti, Deputy Minister of Health for Research and Technology, underscored the high prevalence of diabetes in Iran, with over 4.2% of the adult population affected. He highlighted the substantial economic burden of diabetes on the healthcare system, estimating it at around $10 billion annually.
Dr. Bagher Larijani, President of the Endocrine and Metabolic Research Institute, discussed the role of genetics and personalized medicine in diabetes care. He emphasized the potential of genetic information, combined with artificial intelligence, to tailor treatment plans for individual patients.
Dr. Alireza Raeisi, Deputy Minister of Health for Health, highlighted the importance of addressing non-communicable diseases like diabetes to strengthen overall public health. He emphasized the need for preventive measures, such as lifestyle modifications and early detection, to combat the rising prevalence of diabetes.
