The master's thesis of Mohammad Heydarian Manesh on "Virtual Clinics" was successfully implemented at Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Launched in June 2018, these clinics provide remote healthcare services, especially to patients in remote areas, reducing costs and environmental impact while improving access to health services. In this episode of TUMS GC, Dr. Parastou Ariana, Deputy of Treatment, and Dr. Alimohamad Moradi, a Liver and Pancreas Surgery Fellowship at Hakim Hospital, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, provided insights into the first liver transplant performed at Hakim Hospital. Dr. Ariana described the liver transplant program as one of Hakim Hospital’s missions and added that over a year of serious planning and preparation had been undertaken. She stated that with the use of advanced equipment and the collaboration of top surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses, the procedure was successfully implemented. Dr. Moradi further explained that their patient was a 13-year-old boy with a rare enzymatic disorder. Due to an inability to metabolize cholesterol, he had developed fat deposits in his coronary arteries, making liver transplantation the only viable treatment for him.
