Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) held its grand year-end thanksgiving event, titled “A Year of Unity, A Lifetime of Pride,” on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. Organized by the Vice-Chancellery for Development and Human Resources Management, the event brought together university leaders, faculty, and staff to review annual achievements, honor key contributors, and outline future goals.

In a spirited and well-attended ceremony at the TUMS central administration building, university officials highlighted the accomplishments of the past year while emphasizing the importance of solidarity and continuous progress.

Highlighting Social Responsibility and Road Safety Campaign

In his address, Dr. Seyed Reza Raeeskarami, President of TUMS, commended the unwavering dedication of the university’s managers and staff. Stressing the medical community’s role in societal well-being, he spotlighted the “Say No to Accidents” campaign, urging faculty and staff to raise public awareness and help reduce road accidents during the Nowruz travel season.

Honoring University Leadership and Staff
Dr. Raeeskarami expressed special appreciation for Dr. Hossein Ghanaati, who led the university for part of the previous year, and emphasized that “continued unity among managers, professors, and staff is the secret to the university’s success. Like pieces of a puzzle, each of us contributes to the larger picture of TUMS advancement—our unity is our most valuable asset.”

Human Capital as a Strategic Priority
Acknowledging the pivotal role of human resources, Dr. Raees Karami said, “Our greatest assets are the students, faculty, and healthcare workers striving to improve national health—from rural health workers to hospital specialists. Supporting them remains one of our top priorities.”

Focus on Completing Ongoing Projects
He highlighted the urgency of completing existing infrastructure projects, noting that no new construction initiatives will be launched until the current ones are finalized to prevent excessive financial strain on the university.

Boosting Cultural and Social Engagement
Dr. Raeeskarami emphasized the value of cultural and social activities in creating a vibrant university environment. He praised the contributions of student organizations and cultural institutions, citing initiatives such as communal Iftar events as essential to building deeper bonds between students and faculty.

Staff Welfare and Economic Measures
On the topic of employee well-being, the university president reported progress in updating medical staff bonuses, nursing tariffs, and other compensation packages. “These improvements were made possible through tireless efforts by the support teams and ongoing negotiations to secure university funds,” he stated.

Commitment to Patient Support and Reduced Healthcare Costs
Addressing rising treatment costs due to economic fluctuations, Dr. Raeeskarami emphasized that no patient should be denied care for financial reasons. He urged hospital social work units to strengthen partnerships with charitable donors to ensure continued patient support.

New Year’s Wishes and a Call for Collective Effort
In closing, he wished attendees a successful and harmonious new year, coinciding with the holy nights of Qadr, and asked for their prayers and continued dedication to service and compassion.

Sustainable Growth and a Vision for a Brighter Future Dr. Hamid Choobineh, Vice Chancellor for Development and Planning at TUMS, echoed these sentiments. “As we approach the new year, we pray for divine guidance to help us serve the people of Iran with unity and integrity,” he said. He emphasized the university’s mission in education, research, and patient care, and highlighted the importance of fostering innovation and scientific advancement to raise Iran’s global standing.

Workforce Development and Staff Benefits
Dr. Choubineh detailed the university’s recent achievements in staff welfare, including a 300% increase in employee benefits, timely salary payments despite economic challenges, and the disbursement of overdue nursing overtime payments—despite pending government reimbursements.

TUMS has also successfully reclaimed some outstanding insurance receivables, enabling it to continue construction projects like Shariati Novin and Farabi Hospitals, among others.

Expanded Support Systems for Employees
To further employee welfare, the university has elevated the Department of Welfare to the Directorate of Employee Health and Welfare. Initiatives include new specialist clinics, enhanced dental care, and improved healthcare access. Additional accommodations and recreational facilities were also made available for the Nowruz holidays.

Equity and Career Advancement
Dr. Choubineh reaffirmed the university’s commitment to organizational justice and equal growth opportunities: “We believe managers must act as enablers—creating conditions where all members of the TUMS family can thrive.”

Faith and Health: A Holistic Approach to Well-being
In a special address, Hojjatoleslam Seyyed Hassan Aboutorabi Fard, Tehran’s interim Friday prayer leader, underscored the spiritual dimension of health. “The Qur’an emphasizes health throughout life—from birth to our final meeting with the Creator,” he said. He praised Iran’s post-revolutionary advancements in maternal and child health while stressing the continued need for development and strategic planning.

He concluded by highlighting the family’s role in nurturing both physical and spiritual health and praised fasting as a spiritually and medically beneficial practice. Aboutorabi Fard commended the contributions of TUMS in enhancing the nation’s health and wished its community continued success.
