Document Analysis: A Key Tool in Health Policy Research Using the READ Approach

Dr. Ali Pezeshkian presents findings on the READ approach in health policy research at a journal club session.

A recent journal club hosted by the Department of Economics and Pharmaceutical Management at the Faculty of Pharmacy highlighted the significance of document analysis in health policy research, particularly when utilizing the structured READ approach.

As reported by Sina Media, Dr. Ali Pezeshkian, a specialized assistant in the department, presented the findings of his research on "Document Analysis in Health Policy Research: the READ approach," under the guidance of Dr. Shekoufeh Nikfar, the department head.

Document analysis, a cornerstone of health policy research, provides valuable context, generates research questions, complements other data types, tracks changes over time, and corroborates other sources. By employing a systematic analytical framework, researchers can enhance the accuracy and depth of their analysis, gaining a comprehensive understanding of policy processes and content.

The READ approach (Ready materials, Extract data, Analyse data, Distil) offers a structured process for collecting and extracting information from documents related to health policy studies at any level (global, national, local, etc.). Its flexibility allows it to address a wide range of research questions.

This systematic approach empowers health researchers and policymakers to conduct rigorous and practical analyses based on reliable and structured data, ultimately improving decision-making and policy development.
