China Ambassador Meets TUMS Chancellor
TUMSPR News: For the purpose of expanding educational and international cooperation between TUMS and China’s universities, Yohong Yang, China ambassador in Iran met Dr. Jafarian, TUMS chancellor.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Jafarian introduced TUMS briefly and talked about the university’s capacity and facilities. He said: “TUMS owns 12 schools, 16 hospitals, 80 research centers, 1505 faculty members, and 15072 students who are studying at different stages of specialties, subspecialties and PhD.”
Dr. Jafarian then gave a short speech about TUMS hospitals and added: “While the annual budget allocated to TUMS is equal to many other Iranian universities, 45% of Iran’s research productions in medical sciences belong to TUMS.”
Dr. Jafarian explained that TUMS is implementing 342 different educational programs and has been able to win the first rank among Iran’s medical universities for 11 successive years now. He added that there are currently 79 foreign students studying at TUMS and we hope to have more foreign students in the near future especially from China.
After that Dr. Kheradmand, TUMS deputy of international affairs explained the university’s international strategies and said that TUMS is trying to strengthen its brand in the region and the world.
In another part of this meeting, Yohong Yang, China’s ambassador to Tehran stated his satisfaction of being invited to TUMS and added: “It is 3 years now that I am China’s ambassador to Tehran. I have not studied medicine but I know TUMS because I was a university student in Iran 35 years ago!”
Then he said that Shanghai’s deputy mayor is having a visit to Iran in the next month and it will be a good occasion to discuss about the ways to cooperate with TUMS more thoroughly.
China’s ambassador then pointed to the MUO memorandum between TUMS and Beijing University of Chinese medicine and said this memorandum should be implemented in the near future.
