The Head of Hanover-based International Neuroscience Institute Meets with TUMS Chancellor
TUMSPR News: Professor Majid Samii, the Head of International Neuroscience Institute in Hanover, Germany, met with Dr. Ali Jafarian, TUMS Chancellor, for holding joint short-term courses by the help of international faculties on September 29, 2013.
Professor Majid Samii, the Head ofInternational Neuroscience Institute (INI) in Hanover, Germany, and an affiliate member of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) met with Dr. Ali Jafarian, the newly appointed chancellor of the University, for holding joint short-term courses by the help of international faculties on September 29, 2013.
Dr. Omidvar Rezaie, the Legislative Deputy of the Parliament, and the vice-chancellors of education, research and international relations in attendance, Dr. Imami-Razavi, the Vice-minister for Treatment of the Health Ministry, said Professor Samii’s cooperation with the University has been remarkably significant. Following agreement to the memorandum of understanding between TUMS and INI, he added, a project was approved and funded by benefactors in the University and the resultant [neuroscience center] from this cooperation between INI and TUMS would benefit people for the years to come, he assured.
Congratulating the new post of TUMS caretaker, Professor Samii said he was
certain the new Chancellor would very well use all the capacities of the university to advance it.
On the selection of 18 students taking specialty courses in neuroscience in Germany, Samii said they would have remarkable accomplishments for the country and an honor for INI, as these talented students would publish their first papers in the next six months.
Calling it a highly complex and challenging field of study, Samii said studying neuroscience would take a lot of time to bear fruit and publish high-quality papers. He expressed his delight as Iranian Neuroscience Institute, which has been established by his leadership, has methodically started education and training of specialists.
Professor Samii later proposed the establishment of a medical school with distinguished Iranian and foreign faculties

Briefing the participants on the international activities of the University and recruitment of international students, Dr. Ali Arab-Kheradmand, the vice-chancellor for International Relations, said there have been 1700 applicants this year and 75 students from 18 countries have enrolled already.
On activating the Department of neuroscience, Arab-Kheradmand said, the University was quite ready to hold short courses by
international faculties, issuing visas were simple, and dormitories were prepared to lodge students.
Briefing the group on student activities involving neuroscience, Dr. Masoud Younesian, the newly appointed Vice-chancellor for Research, said the Student Research Center of the University was one of the most active centers in the University and probable links with INI would bring about remarkable results.
In the end, Dr. Jafarian appreciated the presence of Professor Samii in the University and his follow-up of the Iranian Neuroscience Institute’s activities. He called international relations as an essential part of academic undertakings to boost the activities.
He then called for easing of the conditions, abandoning excuses and employing faculties for taking a more structured course of action and better results. He concluded that by allocating adequate financial resources, the proposed project was easy to do.
