Oman’s Health Minister Met TUMS Chancellor in National Museum of Medical History

TUMSPR News: Dr. Ahmad Bin Mohammad Al-Saeidi, Oman’s health minister asked for future cooperation with TUMS in his meeting with Dr. Jafarian.

On April 23rd 2014, Dr. Ahmad Bin Mohammad Al-Saeidi, Oman’s health minister and some deputies met Dr. Jafarian, TUMS chancellor. They also visited Iranian National Museum of Medical History. During this visit, they were told about different activities of TUMS and got familiar with TUMS’ structure and facilities. Dr. Al-Saeid visited different parts of the museum including the sections of medical anthropology, handwritten books and documents, ophthalmology, dentistry, and pharmacology. Dr. Jafarian explained for the Omani board that modern medicine started in Iran with the establishment of Tehran University. He added that TUMS currently owns 14 schools, 16 hospitals, 87 research centers, 1556 faculty members, and 14797 students studying at undergraduate, specialty, sub-specialty, and PhD levels. Introducing various schools, hospitals, and research centers, Dr. Jafarian said: “TUMS owns general and specialty hospitals providing services in different fields of ENT, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, ophthalmology, dermatology, and psychiatry. This university owns the best Iranian faculty members in medicine and every year top students with highest achievements in national university entrance exam choose TUMS to continue their studies.” Next, Dr. Al-Saeidi stated his satisfaction from his visit to the museum and meeting with Dr. Jafarian. He also stated his surprise from the fact that more than half of the students of TUMS are girls. Dr. Al-Saeidi then pointed to the memorandum of medical and health cooperation between Iran and Oman and said the two countries should follow the cooperation more seriously.
