TUMS High Counselor Believes IHF-Assisted Hospital Construction Projects would Transform TUMS to a Model for other Countries

TUMSPR News: In an interview upon the meeting between TUMS authorities and International Hospital Federation representatives, Dr. Masoud Etemadian emphatically believes IHF-assisted projects would transform TUMS to a working model for hospital construction projects on December 19, 2011.

Participating in an interview upon a meeting between Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) authorities and International Hospital Federation (IHF) representatives on December 19, 2011, Dr. Masoud Etemadian, the Chancellor’s high counselor for TUMS development and construction projects,  expressed his opinion about the participation of IHF in the construction of the institute’s largest hospital.

Referring the good experience of hospitals in Iran, Dr. Etemadian said universities in Iran offered health and treatment services in conjunction with education and they had very good experience useful to international organizations. He said TUMS was, therefore, trying to build a hospital inside Imam Khomeini Hospital Complex with public-private partnership and their equal development.

Regarding the initiation phase of Mehdi Clinic project in Imam Khomeini Hospital, Dr. Etemadian said, 200 engineers and architects would fulfill the assessments in 3 more months and would suggest their plans. He said the initial assessments have been done during the past three months and the related report would be presented in the afternoon.

Dr. Edemadian added that aside from Imam Khomeini Hospital, Hazrat Fatima and Women’s Hospital’s construction had been undertaken by the same group to assess. He hoped the three projects could equally progress.  He hoped by the end of the work in 2 years, the institute could represent Iran in the international arenas as Chancellor Larijani has been invited to give a presentation on the Iran’s health care system in Norway in that time. He said if the job was done in a logical and scientific manner, it would create a very good image internationally and add another honor to its list of achievement.

Acknowledging the effective role of Imam Khomeini Hospital in the treatment of people from financially weak parts of the society, Dr. Etemadian said the objectives of the project were to improve the quality and quantity of services at lower costs.

Indicating that the assessment phase would continue for three more months, Dr. Etemadian said the Chancellor would approve the construction phase at the beginning of the Iranian New Year, mid-March, if the assessments were satisfactory. He stressed that designing the project was a very important step in comparison to  the whole process.

On the experience of the assisting group, Dr. Etemadian said he had witnessed their remarkable experience in Italy and informed that they were building another 3500-bed hospital in Turkey.
