TUMS Holds an International Congress on Continuous Value Adding Hospital Management based on Lean Thinking

TUMSPR news: Tehran University of Medical Sciences holds an international congress on continuous value adding hospital management based on Lean thinking by the participation of renowned lecturers from Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, India and Azerbayjan at Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran on November 30, 2011.

An international congress on continuous value adding hospital management based on Lean thinking participated by renowned lecturers from Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, India and Azerbayjan at Shahid Beheshti was held by the Hospital Management Research Center affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) on November 30, 2011.

Welcoming the guest form foreign countries, students, professors and hospital managers from Tehran in his opening remarks, TUMS Chancellor Dr. Bagher Larijani called the subject a valuable experience and hoped it could improve the quality of health services in the country. Chancellor Larijani said health systems around the world were costly and a challenge to any government. He said in the end the governments were to shoulder the costs or people had to pay them out of their pocket.


Chancllor Larijani later introduced the subject of the state’s comprehensive map of the health system that could fairly allocate health budgets to keep the system up and running. He added that as 50% – 80% of the health budget was in fact devoured by hospitals, therefore the ministry had introduced clinical governance. He said hospital management was one of the most complex systems that needed the best available management methods in this regard.
