Tehran University of Medical Sciences held its Second Unified Graduation Ceremony at Azadi Stadium on September 15, 2013.
The Health Minister, Dr. Hassan Hashemi, TUMS Chancellor, Dr. Mohammadreza Mansouri and deans of schools and some other officials from the Ministry of Health and the University accompanied by the students and their families in attendance, Dr. Moslem Bahadori, the Head of Alumni Office, gave his openning speech. In the speech, he said it was an honor to hold the meeting on the eve of the birth anniversary of Eighth Shia Imam, and congratulate the occasion to attendees considering the importance of education, morals and ethics.
Dr. Mansouri was the second to deliver his speech. Congratulating the festivity to the parents for all the trouble they had endured during their children’s education, Dr. Mansouri addressed the graduates and said they ought to be proud to have studied in the largest medical university of the country. He said the University had held the first rank in research and education for the past 11 years and bore nine out of 11 world-renowned scientists [in the field of medicine and allied sciences] in Iran.
Mentioning the importance of studying in medicine and allied health sciences, Dr. Mansouri said those who graduate from medicine and take the [Hippocratic] oath and their goal is to promote the health of the people should remain committed to it as medicine is surrounded by sanctity and human is in the center of its attention. Moreover, he said, God blesses man and that is why medicine is regarded as a noble science.
The last speaker was the Health Minister, Dr. Hassan Hashemi, who congratulated the attendees on the occasion and sympathetically said everybody had to be honest with himself, first, and then with people and refrain from telling lies as lies will cut off the blessings in life and hinder the moral growth. Respecting our parents, he added, was the basis to have respect for others.
Stating that the health system was in their service, Dr. Hashemi urged the graduates to patience and said all the authorities present in the meeting had come across bitter stages in their career but those who strive would finally come out as winners. He asked God to help him be able to meet some parts of the graduates’ demands.
